*Congratulations to the Moon family after Mr Mervyn Moon won best foal with Eva M (Wobke 403) and Best in Show went to Mr John Moon’s mare Mellina K (Ulbert 390) (pictured above and below) who was also awarded 2nd Premie Ster*

A very successful day was had by brothers Mervyn and John Moon, at the Friesian Horse Association of Great Britain and Ireland Inspections held on 20th September at Laurel View Equestrian Centre, Templepatrick. Mervyn was successful in the foal classes with his beautiful filly foal Eva M (Wobke 403 Stb Sport x Ids 300 Stb) gaining a 1st premie and Best Foal. Mervyn’s magnificent Stallion Nammele fan Wetsenbosch, sired by Monte 378 Stb Sport, gained the coveted Ster designation and Best Stallion and was praised by KFPS Judges Bauke de Boer and Popke van der Meulen for his outstanding racial type and expressive trot. However, top honours of the day went to Mervyn’s brother John and his superb mare Mellina K, (Ulbert 390 Stb Sport x Ruerd 319 Stb) who was awarded 2nd Premie Ster status, Best Mare and Best in Show. Mellina K is a foundation mare for John’s stud and has previously produced a number of quality foals.

Indeed the foal classes were very well supported by John & Mervyn Moon and also George Fawcett, with all foals receiving premie grades, a great testament to the quality of Friesian breeding by N Ireland’s leading Friesian Stud Farms.

The stunning young mare Olivia fan Batouwe (Ielke 382 Stb Sport x Doeke 287 stb) owned by Seamus Lagan proved herself to be a true ambassador for the all round potential of the Friesian Horse breed, not only gaining second premie Ster status, but also being placed 1st in the Ridden Mare class and 1st in the Exercise Vehicle carriage driving class. The judges praised Olivia in all her classes for her superb elevated movement and proud bearing, and the crowd were even treated to a performance of Spanish Walk by Olivia and her young rider.

Top honours in the ridden stallion class went to Lorna Doone-Fletcher riding her own Ster graded Stallion Menno fan Wetsenbosch (known as Arnie or X-rated 007) at home. Lorna was praised by the judges for their immaculate turnout and harmonious presentation showing off Menno’s relaxed elevated paces, and the pair were later crowned ridden champions by Sponsor Mrs Mason-Smith of 16-Plus Rider.

In the driving classes George Fawcett with his pair of magnificently turned out Stallions put to an authentic Dog Cart were crowned overall champions by class Sponsors Mr & Mrs Venter of Black Horses Ltd, to rapturous applause after a superb display of driving. All in all a successful and enjoyable day for all.
